About Lake Erie College

Lake Erie College is a private, liberal arts college located in Painesville, which is the county seat of Lake County, situated in the US state of Ohio, a city with a population estimated at a number of more than 17 500 inhabitants, during the 2000 census.

Lake Erie College was established in 1856 and it is best known for its equine studies program, which draws students from across the country and around the world, being the most popular major at the college.

The institution is now co-educational, but, prior to 1986, it was one of the 3 remaining women's colleges in the state, along with Notre Dame College and Ursuline College.

Athletics

The college's athletic teams are known as the Storm, and they compete in NCAA Division II, in 23 varsity sports, for men and women, among which there is basketball, cross country, soccer, golf, lacrosse, volleyball and softball.

The teams' distinctive colors are Forest Green and White and their mascot is Stormy (Lake Erie), a stylized cyclone.
